Sculpting a strong brand
Like so many similarly successful eCommerce businesses, the inspiration behind Meso For Men came when seeking an answer to their own problem. In early 2019, founder Ian's son complained that his hair was thinning; yet on the search for the perfect thickening spray, every avaliable product was branded towards older men. Ian explains, “Knowing my son, I knew that he simply wouldn’t connect with each brand, preferring a young, trendier version to products traditionally aimed at older men.”. This clear gap in the market quickly turned into a viable business opportunity when Ian was joined by an expert in the field- with thirty years’ experience formulating products for worldwide brand, Fudge. Ian knew the key to success was meeting each expectation of today’s consumer. Being ex forces, Ian combined a pride in UK-made, barber-quality ingredients with a strong ethos for No Animal Cruelty and their flagship product, Meso Sea Salt Spray was born. The brand name? Inspired by Ancient Mesopotamian society and the true origin of luxurious beard care.
Trial and (one major) error
After a successful launch on Amazon, Meso expanded their product line with their Volumizing Powder, Grooming Clay, Styling Cream and Deluxe Pomade, trialing the storage, pick, pack and dispatch of their orders through Fulfilment by Amazon. Regrettably, this was not without its struggles. Ian explains: “To begin with, Meso For Men’s sales were expanding very quickly. We thought we had the foundations of a great business going forward. Then, typically, a spanner was thrown in the works when an inventory transfer of Sea Salt Spray delivered to our Amazon FBA centre unfortunately became lost. This left us in a position that all growing eCommerce business owners dread; For two weeks, we had sales but no stock and at this point we realised that Amazon’s Seller Central support for FBA Sellers was lacking.”
Ian soon discovered it was time to go their separate ways: “When Amazon finally located our stock, it was already damaged and unsellable. We had to refund sales and at this point, I realised that our partnership with Fulfilment by Amazon could break our business beyond repair, with no help or support despite monthly service charges and FBA fees on every sale.“
Smart tech meets excellent customer service
Withdrawing all stock from Fulfilment by Amazon, Ian and his business partner set out on the search for a fulfilment provider specialising in intelligent tracking technology, accurate reporting and excellent customer service for rapidly growing brands. A prosperous future

Ian comments: “Importantly, we have even noticed an increase in profits due to the reduced fees we pay here at fulfilmentcrowd in comparison to Amazon FBA fees. Through my personal log-in to their cloud-based platform, I can keep an eye on our inventory, check the status of live orders and know that my fulfilment expert, Brittany, is there for support if ever I need her.” The coming year certainly looks exciting for Meso, as they collaborate with ‘My Dapper Box’ monthly subscription boxes, QX magazine fashion expert Tony Flynn and Barber 48 on promotional video content.
